Tamales!

This morning, we had a lovely walk as a family. It was snowing and windy, however still enjoyable!
After coming home and having lunch followed by family worship, we went to the grocery store to buy ingredients for tamales. Our Aunt gave us the tamale recipe several years ago and we usually get a group of people together to help make them, but time is a big factor so we decided to just do it with the 3 of us (Big sister is working on research paper so she was not able to help she will get to taste the results) Here is a brief overview of how we make tamales.
First you make the meat (can be cooked chicken, pork, beef or turkey) , add seasonings of onion, cumin, garlic, oregano, cloves, and dried roasted chili's.

Then you put the masa in a corn shell and fill with meat...

and then you roll and cook in a steamer! The whole process takes about 6-7 hrs. The tamales are still steaming so we will have to show you the finished product tomorrow. good night - S.A.M.

A two week overview in pictures!

Well, our last two weeks have been extremly busy hence leaving no time to post on our blog. So we thought the best way to make up for it was having a summary in pictures.

A fire in downtown that we passed on Sabbath morning on our way to church.

Some friends from church

This picture was taken on our way to evening worship

Travels took us to a view of the Ohio State Football stadium.

A lovely day....

Today was spent doing school, house cleaning ( the regular dusting sweeping etc.), then going to see our cousins who gave us Wallace and Grommitt cookies! Sarah made pie crusts for Sabbath(she will finish making the fillings tomorrow) and Meg and I made chocolate covered strawberry's. Mumsy made us a lovely dinner; Italian vegetable soup with gourmet bread and olive oil dipping sauce!

Reflections...

This past month I have been studying the book The Sovereignty of God by A.W. Pink. One theme of the book is exalting the Savior and humbling the sinner. One area where Christians can humble themselves is by searching for and repenting of their sin. But this method is none too popular today! Everyone today (including non-believers) are told "Jesus loves you!". Does this make people want to turn from their sin and follow Christ? No, the fact is it makes sinners content in their sin. Why repent if Jesus loves me? Pink asks this: "Is it true that God loves the one who is despising and rejecting His blessed Son? To tell the Christ-rejector that God loves him is to cauterise his conscience as well as to afford him a sense of security in his sins." Just food for thought!

Yesterday

Yesterday, we spent the day with Mom's family as we were having our pictures taken with all of our cousins to give as a gift to our grandparents. The pictures turned out really well, and all in all we had a wonderful day spending time together. We have three younger cousins~all boys so we were never at loss for laughter or conversation! We ate lunch at Olive Garden while we were waiting for the pictures to print . The food was okay but it was rather costly! After we finished our meal we went back to get the pictures and had Dippin' Dots for our treat! We had never heard of Dippin' Dots before~the ice cream is in the form of very small balls (about the size of sprinkles) and you can get all kinds of flavors: bubble gum, banana split, chocolate, mint chocolate chip and many more. The ice cream has to be stored in dry ice so it will not melt.
